Install

1. Open the .dmg and drag DocCueMent into Applications.
2. Launch it — it lives in your menu bar (no Dock icon). Click the menu-bar icon to open the panel.
3. First launch shows a “downloaded this file” prompt — because it’s notarized, just click Open.
4. Click Open from Google Drive… — sign in and pick your script in one step.
5. Scan the QR with your phone to pair the remote.
6. Driving it from the laptop? Open Operator View from the menu-bar panel — a copy of the glass with transport controls, never mirrored.

Signing in. Sign-in and picking your script are one step — Google’s own file chooser. DocCueMent only ever sees the files you pick there; it cannot browse the rest of your Drive. Found a bug on a shoot? Tell us.

Formatting your script

One rule, and it’s the whole thing:

• Bold = narration. What you read aloud.
• Plain = interview bites. Shown for timing, not read.
• Headings = slugs. Section markers you can jump between.

Nothing bolded means nothing to read — the panel will tell you if a script loads that way.

Two-column A/V scripts

Supported. Keep your usual table — VIDEO one side, AUDIO the other. DocCueMent reads the audio column and ignores the shot descriptions, so you don’t end up reading “WIDE SHOT” on camera.

It finds the audio column by looking for the bolded narration, so it works whether audio is on the left or the right. A first-row VIDEO/AUDIO header is skipped.

Keyboard

Keys work from any prompter window and drive every screen at once — so you can keep the Operator View focused on your Mac and still control the glass.

Your phone does the same things without touching the Mac. Scan the QR in the menu-bar panel.

Second screens

Operator View — from the menu-bar panel or the tray menu, opens a copy of the glass on your Mac. Same line breaks, same lines visible, never mirrored, and its keyboard drives the prompter. From 0.6.0 its control bar has a DOC button that opens the script in your browser for a fix between takes — the edit reaches the glass on its own, and the prompter keeps its place.

An iPad instead of the Elgato — under Advanced in the panel there’s a QR for a second screen. Scan it with an iPad on the same Wi‑Fi and it becomes the prompter, mirroring included. Set the iPad’s Auto‑Lock to Never.

Questions

Nothing scrolls, or the script looks empty.

Bold is the narration you read aloud; plain text is treated as an interview bite and isn’t read. A document with nothing bolded has nothing to prompt — the panel will say so, and the Doc light turns amber.

Does it handle two-column A/V scripts?

Yes. Keep your usual table. DocCueMent reads the audio column and ignores the shot descriptions, and it finds the audio column by looking for the bolded narration — so it works whether audio is on the left or the right.

The menu-bar icon has disappeared.

On a laptop with a busy menu bar, macOS can hide icons behind the camera notch. Relaunch DocCueMent from Applications — a second launch reopens the panel rather than starting another copy, and the panel has a Quit button. From 0.6.0 you can also turn on Show in Dock in Settings, which gives you a way in that can’t be hidden that way.

My phone says NOT PAIRED.

The remote needs the code carried by the QR, so nobody else on the Wi‑Fi can drive your prompter by opening the address. Scan the QR again rather than typing the link.

Do I still have to click past an “unverified app” warning?

No. Google’s brand review is complete, so sign-in goes straight through. If you were clicking Advanced on an earlier build, that’s gone — nothing to reinstall or re‑authorise, it changed on Google’s side.

Which of my documents can it see?

Only the ones you pick yourself in Google’s file chooser. It cannot browse or list the rest of your Drive. A link pasted under Advanced only works for a doc you’ve already opened that way.

What happens if the Wi‑Fi drops mid‑take?

The last synced script stays on the glass and the panel reads offline. It will never blank or throw up an error while you’re shooting.

The Mac slept, or the Wi‑Fi dropped. Do I need to restart?

No. The phone and the prompter both notice a dead connection and reconnect on their own, usually within about half a minute — no re‑scanning the QR. (Fixed in 0.4.0; earlier builds needed a restart.)

Does it run on an Intel Mac?

Yes, from 0.4.0 — this is a universal build. Earlier versions were Apple Silicon only and wouldn’t launch at all on Intel.

Where does my script go?

Nowhere. It’s fetched from Google straight to your Mac — there is no DocCueMent server and no account with us. See the privacy policy.
